Does it need a subscription?
No. Buy it once and it's yours. The Mac app, the iPhone app and the Chrome extension are free.
Which devices does it work with?
The display connects over USB-C or Bluetooth. The free Mac app and the Chrome extension (for Windows) block apps and sites, and the iPhone app links to the same account with a 6-digit code.
Do I need a computer?
The display only needs USB-C power, and with the iPhone app it connects by Bluetooth. A Mac or a Windows PC (with Chrome) is needed to block apps and sites on the computer, and to update the display.
What's in the box?
The MakiMode device, a USB-C cable, a quick-start guide and engraved custom chopsticks.
What makes this different than a NFC blocker like Get Brick?
An NFC blocker is a tag you tap with your phone. It works on your phone only, and out of sight means out of mind: most of them end up in a drawer. MakiMode sits on your desk, right in your eyesight, reminding you to start focus. It also takes the control off the device that distracts you in the first place. Tap it to start, hold it to stop, and it blocks apps and sites on your Mac, Windows PC and iPhone at once, hiding feeds like the YouTube home page and the Instagram feed. And it costs about the same as a plain NFC tag, but it does a lot more.
